The Jack Fruit Craze

Up until recently most of us in the UK hadn’t even heard of a jack fruit let alone be able to explain what it was. But this strange and exotic fruit is finally having its moment and taking the vegan scene by storm.

If you’re a little late to the jack fruit party, here’s a bit of background. They are grown on trees and originate from South Asia, they are the size of a (huge) watermelon weighing between 10 to 100 pounds, covered with green, spiky skin and smell intensely sweet. The flesh resembles a texture not far from pineapple and tastes slightly of banana. They are also super healthy, naturally gluten and soy free, high in essential vitamins including C and B6 and rich in fibre, magnesium and potassium.

The fantastic hours of work are Monday to Friday 7am – 3pm. We offer a basic salary of £16,000 per annum, along with a bonus paid on achieving targets to give an OTE of £24,000+.

Each vehicle is given a specific round of calls which is regularly monitored and updated depending on the sales performance, you will also be expected to work closely with the rounds supervisor to contribute towards the success of your round. The more successful your round, the more bonus you achieve.

Full uniform is provided as well as a 25% discount across all our sites, 28 days Holiday per year and staff pension scheme. Full training is provided on the round that you will be allocated.

Early Morning Catering Assistant Vacancy

We are currently looking for an Early Morning Catering Assistant, Monday to Friday, 4:45am until 8:45am, (20 hours per week) to join our team.

You will be working as part of our fresh morning sandwich team making our delicious fresh baguettes for our fleet of mobile food to the work place vehicles (Proper food 2U).

On average we make around two hundred and fifty baguettes a day, so speed and attention to detail will be key for this role.

Ideally we’re looking for someone who has had similar experience in making high volume fresh sandwiches.

In return we offer £8.38 per hour, 28 days holiday per year, Company pension scheme, free on site parking, staff discount and full on the job training. To top it all off you’ll be working Monday to Friday with every weekend off. We also don’t work bank holidays and have about 12 days close at Christmas.

Top Marks for New Chilled Food Production Facility

After investing a further £100,000 in a brand new sandwich and chilled production facility we had an unannounced visit by the EHO (Environmental Health Officer) for a full premises and Food Safety audit.

We were already a 5 Star facility so we just needed to maintain our standard…which we did and passed with flying colours again!  What was different about this was the comment from the EHO officer, he said

“This is one of the best facilities I’ve visited…period”

He went on to congratulate our General Manager for maintaining a high standard and for going beyond the standard.  Additionally he was pleased to see that the new production facility had been designed with the correct guidelines for food storage and preparation, even down to the signage and food safety management controls which he also commented were beyond what other facilities deliver.

When we manufacture food (hot or cold) we focus heavily on food safety, our production and food handling (including drivers) staff are all classroom trained (as opposed to online trained) which is a commitment of a full day outside of normal working hours, to ensure that there is a full understanding of food safety and safe food handling.

We manufacture and serve food in a manner by which we would hope to be served ourselves, as customers.

Haggis Pasty – January Pasty of the Month

haggis-pastyHappy New Year Proper Pasty fans!  This month we are proudly featuring our Haggis Pasty as Pasty of the Month.

This Scottish themed delicacy is made in Cornwall (as all of our pasties are) and packed full of The World Famous McSween’s Haggis of Edinburgh, launched this month in celebration of  Burns night.
